Brädgår’n “Filmen” 1990 from Martin Karlsson on Vimeo.

Another great contribution from Sweden’s skateboard antiquarian no. 1 - my good friend Martin Karlsson. This video was released in 1991 (if I’m not mistaken) and is probably the first ever “commercial” skateboard video ever produced in Sweden. Some of Sweden’s finest skaters at the time are showing their talent: Tomas Olsson, Adam Karlsson, Martin Karlsson, Kenjiro Kamiyasu, Torbjörn Englund, myself and Andreas Engelkes. Shot on Hi8 and edited by Martin and me on VHS. The lagging audio is because we had no proper editing equipment… Make sure to check out Martin’s other videos.

Thanks Martin.

Skateistan

Skateistan works for a better Afghanistan. Through the construction of skate parks in Afghanistan’s major cities Skateistan will provide the Afghan youth with a safe environment where kids can be kids and where skateboarding becomes a much needed breathing hole in a country with little to offer for the youth. Skateistan is Afghanistan’s first dedicated skateboarding school. It engages the growing numbers of urbanised youth through skateboarding and provides new opportunities in cross-cultural interaction and education. Student capacity will be developed in skateboarding, skateboarding instruction, project management, life skills and English. Our aim is to develop a program that empowers youth to take leadership on issues important to them and build networks that will counter current ethnic barriers.
